Kuchman I. Functional-Semantic Category of Causativity in the Modern Ukrainian Language

The present thesis is devoted to complex research of functional-semantic category of causativity, which realizes the semantics of conceptual category of causality and presents "cause - effect" relation with the help of language means on different levels (lexical, phraseological, word-formational, morphological and syntactic). For the first time in Ukrainian linguistics lingual essence of the category of causativity is set, the terminological system of linguistic research of cause and effect relations is specified, specialized and non-specialized means of expressing causative relations are described. Lexical-semantic and grammar-semantic properties of causative verbs, which form the centre of the category of causativity, are defined. Based on derivational processes in verbal system such causative types are characterised: lexical, phraseological, word-formational, morphological and syntactic. Nouns, adverbs, pronouns and conjunctions which specialize in expressing causative relations are analyzed. Non-specialized means of expressing causative relations, which function in simple and complex sentences, texts, are described.
