Essay

The thesis is dedicated to the analysis of interpretation and function of biblical text in Mykola Kylish's plays taking into consideration the dramatist's creative evaluation, in a cultural and historical context. M. Kulish emphasizes the problem of correlation between the sacral and the profane, transcendental and "earthly", the issue of cardinal change of ontological coordinates. In spite of a conscious aim at myth lamination, interchange of the sacral and profane, an application of parody, grotesque, and elements of the Theatre of the Absurd, the Bible remains for this author the sacral word and the Christian canon remains dominant.
