Essay

The thesis provides complex analysis of social adaptation of mentally retarded people in Ukrainian society. It reveals that day-to-day life of these people is characterized by social exclusion, discrimination and marginalization. The reason of such conditions lies in social policy and prejudged attitude of most of the society to handicapped people. The thesis investigates the origin of such prejudice and suggests the concept to eliminate it. It reveals factors which make adaptation process more effective and implies participation of mentally retarded people.
