Object: buildings' facades of the historical part of Kharkov city during late 17th - early 20th , the purpose: to reveal the characteristics and the role of decoration in creating historical buildings' facades of Kharkov; methods: observations, photographs, archival, historical, literary, design sources, comparisons of compositionally morphological, semantic analysis and art criticism; novelty: first time, a detailed description of the decorative and monumental art of facades of buildings were introduced; results: classification of compositional methods of synthesis in architecture and decor; degree of implementation: the restoration and reconstruction of architectural objects; area : architectural design.
