The thesis focuses on the contrastive analysis of the structural and semantic peculiarities of the English and Ukrainian evaluative neologisms of the end of the XXth - the beginning of the XXIst century. The definition of the evaluative neologism has been worked out and the theoretical grounds for the study of evaluative innovations have been explicated. The criteria for the identification of evaluative neologisms in English and Ukrainian of the end of the XXth - the beginning of the XXIst century have been formulated. The universal and differential characteristics of the semantics of the new language units under study have been revealed. Spheres of reality verbalized by evaluative neologisms in English and Ukrainian have been determined. Negative and positive evaluative innovations in the languages compared have been identified and their correlations in the semantic-ideographic classes and groups have been analysed. The peculiarities of the realization of the evaluative meaning of the English and Ukrainian neologisms in the context have been described. The ways of enriching English and Ukrainian of the end of the XXth - the beginning of the XXIst century by evaluative neologisms have been determined. The correlations between structural types of innovations and their evaluative semantics have been studied.
