The thesis studies linguo-cognitive and discourse aspects of misunderstanding as interpretation type. The complex analysis, built on the corpus of the English dialogic entities, on the basis of cognitive-discoursive paradigm has revealed the implementation of misunderstanding of partial and inadequate understanding of the discourse by the addressee. There have been examined the discourse models and markers of misunderstanding in the modern English fiction. The thesis analyzes of misunderstanding occurring at different significative levels of the discourse with the linguo-cognitive triggers taken into account. The author has pointed out the principal strategic failures of the discourse mental representation constructing.
