Thesis is dedicated to study of Ukrainian placenames with formants -ець, -иця fixed in written sources of the Х – the beginning of the ХХІ c. For the first time the complete analysis of the names of the locations with -ець, -иця was done. The reasons of the origin and the history of the formation, the structural semantic peculiarities of the names were analysed, the comparative time of the appearance of the studied placenames was ascertained, the areas and the productivity of the names since time immemorial up now were defined in the investigation.
