Essay

The object of the study is presented by English law terms - names of crimes against individual. The subject is presented by semantic and functional characteristics of these terms, the complex study of which is the aim of the research. The methods include: inductive and information retrieval methods, methods of word definition analysis, component analysis, field modelling, description, context and discourse analysis, sociolinguistic and quantitative analysis. The scientific novelty of the paper lies in the fact that it is first to define the group of terms as the structure and system, which interacts with the consciousness and practice of a culturally-language group, to work out the model of term complex analysis, to specify the field modelling principles, to define the subtypes of legal discourse, and to carry out the detailed and comprehensive analysis of the group of terms - names of crimes against individual. The theoretical value of the research is that its results are contribution to terminology: field modelling of the term group contributes to the development of semantic-cognitive approach in terminology; revelation and analysis of the term functional parameters, their classification development broaden the scientific conception of the term functions, connecting them with the factors of consciousness, culture and society; the analysis of regional terms contributes to sociolinguistic terminology. The practical value of the study is that its results can be used in the courses of lexicology and stylistics, general linguistics, special courses in terminology, discoursology, sociolinguistics, legal translation, in lexicography.
