Bannikova K. The main diseases of maize and their control under conditions of Forest-Steppe of Ukraine

Dissertation is devoted to investigation of species composition, distribution, harmfulness of diseases of maize and improving the system of their control. Based on analysis of data on major diseases of maize shows the changes in the structure of pathogenic complex were shown. The part of northern brown spot increased when corn smut - diminished. It was established that the injury of stems in recent years has become more common than development of corn smut on cobs. For the first time under conditions of Forest-Steppe of Ukraine development of gray leaf spot caused by Curvularia inaequalis (Shear) Boedijn was found. Harmfulness of Helminthosporium turcicum and Ustilago zeae was established. Models of harmfulness of these diseases were developed. The role of agrotechnics (fertilizers, crop rotation, tillage) in control of maize diseases was showed. Hybrids that were less infected by diseases were established. Efficiency of modern seed disinfectants and fungicides against the complex of maize diseases was evaluated. Economical efficiency of their use was calculated.
