The paper is devoted to the complex investigation of the formation of the architectural environment in the center of Cherkassy since the end of XIX to the beginning of XXI century, the evolution of the characteristics of objects and elements of the environment. In this paper analyzed the evolution characteristics objects and elements environment. Formulated principles of formation of urban environment of the center of the historical city, the aim of which is the humanization of urban space, scientific approach to the study and protection of man, nature and urban education, conservation and natural development of a valuable image of Historic Places. Proposed changes in the training of designers education, suggested that clearly distinguish the concept of "object of urban design" as an object that can be attributed to the monuments of material culture, with the development of corresponding measures for the protection, conservation and restoration.
