Essay

The PhD dissertation presents results of the study investigating the incidence, spectrum, diagnostic and prognostic significance of different types of primary cytogenetic rearrangement and additional chromosomal abnormalities in chronic myeloid leukemia. The different ways of chimeric BCR/ABL gene formation such as typical or complex translocation and submicroscopic insertions are shown. There was created an algorithm for cytogenetic and molecular cytogenetic diagnostics of chronic myeloid leukemia. Identification of additional cytogenetic changes occurrence in Ph-positive cells during therapy is a sign of disease progression.
