Kurulyk V. Execution of pre-trial detention and criminal punishment in a detention center

This thesis presents a definitive and comprehensive study of legal and organizational basis of execution of pre-trial detention and criminal punishment in a detention centers as penitentiary institutions. Author explores the history of creation an evolution of a detention centers in Russian Empire, Soviet Union and important changes in a detention centers in modern Ukraine. Author describes sociolegal nature of detention centers and execution of criminal punishment in form of physical confinement and deprivation of a wide range of personal freedoms, the specific legal relationships and the legal status of detainees and convicts kept for maintenance and servicing within the detention center.
