Dzyuba M. Eponyms in Ukrainian scientific terminology

The thesis is devoted to researching Ukrainian eponymic terms presented widely in terminological systems of natural science branches, having special status in terminological lexis. The thesis makes more precise the volume of eponym notion, elucidates the peculiarities of the appellativation in the sphere of scientific terminology. On the basis of semiotic approach Ukrainian eponymic terms are presented as an integral dynamic system stipulated by a complex of factors of lingual and extralingual character being of national cultural value. Structural types are characterized of eponymic nominations, their productive models are determined. Lexico-semantic processes are analyzed which accompany the creation and functioning of eponymic terms, their lingual pragmatic peculiarities are revealed at the stage of formation and functioning. Recommendations are worked out concerning the codification of eponymic nominations in present-day Ukrainian scientific terminology.
