Kosianchuk O. The Genesis and Evolution of the Ode Genre in the Ukrainian Literature of the XVI-XX centuries

The thesis presents the fist complex and systematic research devoted to ode evolution in the Ukrainian poetry of the XVI-XX centuries. The main attention is focused on the problem of genesis and development of this genre. The controversial issues of the ode theory are investigated, particularly the problem of ode definition and ode correlation with other genres of laudatory poetry (panegyric, hymn, psalm). Genesis of the laudatory poetry can be traced from the panegyric texts of Kyivska Rus period in XI-XIII centuries. Analysis of images, thematic level, artistic and stylistic devices of medieval panegyrics visualizes the importance of this period, so far as it was a preparatory stage for the development of laudatory lyric genres - odes, panegyrics, hymns, psalms. The sources of the ode are defined: literary tradition of antiquity (Horace, Pindar, etc.), native panegyric tradition in the Middle Ages, orientation to Western European literature in the Renaissance period.
