In the work the substance and the scope of the notion "argumentation" is defined, the evolution of the views on it is traced. The structural types of the argumentative statements are analyzed. The inventory of language means which are used by the communicators to express argument is described. The communicative-pragmatic features of the argumentative statements are investigated.
