The linguistic-historiographical research of the Ukrainian language origin is for the first time analyzed in the dissertation. The latter discloses the peculiarities of study of the Ukrainian language origin in the concepts of the XIX century scientists, further development of the problem of Ukrainian glottogenesis in the works by linguists of the ХХ century - the beginning of the ХХІ century considering certain changes in views of scientists on the thesis about the derivation of the Ukrainian language from the Proto-East Slavic or directly from the Proto-Slavic.
