Essay

This thesis focuses on the investigation of neologisms and occasionalisms created by means of word-formation, abbreviation, explicit and implicit derivation. It suggests semantic classification of neologisms and occasionalisms in accordance with the main spheres of human activity, highlighting globalization process as extralingual factor which influences the enrichment of contemporary German vocabulary. It has been proved that internal language factor ensures the regularities and tendencies in word-building system of contemporary German and explains the changes in the ways and means of the formation of neologisms and occasionalisms. It is claimed that two and three components composite structures are the most productive word-building means of innovative units formation. The quantitative and statistic analysis of word-building models testifies basic word-building tendencies and confirms preferences in the use of American borrowings and rare use of Spanish, Italian and the other. Key words: neologisms, occasionalisms, word-formation, borrowing, semantic derivation.
