Essay

The Dissertation deals with the studies of the environment factors influence on the prevalence of autoimmune thyroiditis among population of Lviv region. To determine its non-homogeneity as to the iodine content in drinking water; correlation between the iodine concentration in water in areas with different level of iodine-sufficiency and antibody titers to thyroglobulin and thyroperoxidase. The most substantial influence on the thyroiditis development among the adult population is stipulated by total beta-activity of drinking water and Cs137 specific activity in foodstuffs; among teenagers - chemical pollution of food products, Sr90 specific activity in food and atmospheric precipitation; among children - chemical pollution of food, water, soil and Cs137 level in drinking water. The relative risk of thyroiditis development proved to be much higher among people that inhabits the regions low-iodine content and much more polluted environment. In order to decrease the risk of autoimmune thyroiditis the differential approach in iodine-deficient prophylaxis is needed; with due regard for median ioduria, iodine endemia level, the state of environment and peculiarities of wide-spreadness of thyroiditis among some separate age and sex groups of population.
