Essay

The thesis attempts to address key issues of figurative journalism in the theory of social communication. Herewith the concept of figurative journalism, photojournalism, infographics is being clarified. The paper aims at characterizing and classifying genre-species division of photojournalism and journalistic infographics. The trends in the practice of using the figurative elements in Ukrainian periodicals for various subjects and directions were revealed based on the experimental studies conducted.The impact of figurative journalism (photography and infographics) on the perception of textual information was determined and a system of advice and recommendations to the editors of periodicals on the use of visual elements in the construction of page layout was developed in the experiment course.
