Essay

The dissertation identifies the development milestones of participatory journalism in Ukraine, proposes its first periodization and describes the contexts in which this practice functions. The study presents the main author’s definitions: participatory journalism, the discursive model of participatory journalism, the definition of five participatory journalism models as well as four strategies for the practice development. In addition, the author’s glossary is presented. Participatory journalism covers both professional and citizen journalism (user-generated content on different platforms), focusing on interactive, empathetic coverage of social issues in the context of human destiny (levelling “human invisibility”), as well as the mandatory achievement of a specific result on the material publications.
