Essay

The paper identified and analyzed the main approaches to the political opposition and the opposition government. A definition of "opposition government" as an advisory body established by the parliamentary opposition as opposed to the government official for the formation of long and short-term policy of the party in Parliament and is the instrument of parliamentary monitoring, control actions of the executive power, producing alternative policy ideas and solutions. Outlined and systematized functions and types of opposition government in a modern democracy. The main functions of the opposition government is to control and monitor government activities, development of alternative development strategies and alternative bills for its support, ensuring the right to inherit power. Highlighted the following type of opposition government: the classic British opposition offices, opposition governments of other countries of the Westminster system, opposition governments in countries with other political systems. The features of formation and functioning of the opposition government in the UK, Australia, Canada, Italy, France and Ireland. The analysis of the problems of institutionalized opposition government in the Ukrainian political system.
