Metamorphosis of modern state image in the context of postmodernity are investigated. Functional properties of modern state are determined. Influence of state sensual characteristics and common features development on the evolution of state functions is described. Tax state in the typological characteristics of modern state was investigated. Genesis and institutionalization of tax function of the state was disclosed. Essence and structure of tax function of modern state were determined.
