Rolik I. Effect of zirconium production for nuclear fuel cycle of Ukraine on ecological safety of environment and people.

Subject of study: process of negative effects of production of nuclear-pure zirconium in Ukraine on environmental and human safety. Purpose: assessment of effects of enterprises engaged in zirconium production for the purposes of nuclear power engineering in Ukraine on the environmental conditions and human beings with the application of appropriate ecological risk assessment methods. Methods: system and index analysis, mathematical statistics, mathematical modeling, risk assessment, object-oriented programming. Scientific novelty: the methods of assessment of environmental risks were further developed; environmental hazard of pollutant emissions discharged by zirconium production enterprises in Ukraine was investigated; the list of substances was scientifically grounded to control their content in ambient air; the principles to control environmental risks in the sphere of zirconium production industry of Ukraine were determined. Theoretical and practical results: the method to determine the uniform degree of non-carcinogenic risk hazard was developed; the computer program for the assessment of inhalation risks was developed; zoning of the territories under study was carried out to assess the degree of inhalation risk hazards; the nature-conservative measures were developed for the purposes of assuring environmental safety at zirconium production enterprises. Implementation degree: implemented at VMMC, SSPE "Zirconium", NSC "KPTI", under conditions of production development and production scientific support. Sphere of application: assurance of environmental safety at enterprises engaged in production of nuclear-pure zirconium.
