Shlionska O. Parenting style as a factor of child adaptive capacities development

Thesis is dedicated to the problem of interrelationship between parenting style and development of adaptive capacities of a child. The directions of the research of psychological content of adaptive capacities of a child and the influence of parenting style on formation of these capacities, as well as methods of child maladjustment correction and maladjustment-causing parenting styles, were based on analysis of classical and contemporary psychological literature; the causes of disruption in development of adaptive capacities of a child during adolescence crisis in particular (the most vulnerable period of child development) and influence of parental attitude during this period on child adaptation were defined in this thesis research.As a result of empirical research the impact of the components of parenting style on adaptive capacities of a child were defined. Undestanding of these impacts allows identifing the causes of behavioral problems in a process of adaptation in each particular case and applying appropriate correction programs. Based on results of research on parenting style as a factor of development of child adaptive capacities, the program of psychological help, using catatonic imaginative psychotherapy, to maladjusted adolescents and their parents was devised. The results of the implementation of this program showed its efficiency confirmed by statistically significant changes in the results of re-diagnosis.
