Prerequisites, history of origin and development of a scenic costume in Ukraine, its designing peculiarities are investigated in the dissertation. The analysis of designing methods of a scenic costume folklore forms for different functional purposes and art value is carried out, the ways of details transformation to the Ukrainian traditional dress are identified. The offered principle of transformation of the traditional Ukrainian dress in the course of creation of new samples of scenic costume requires gradual and careful reconsiderations of primary sources in order to preserve maximum ideologically-meaningful, emotionally-informative and other important characteristics
