Essay

This thesis is devoted to the complex research of English prose fables in pragmatic, stylistic and cognitive aspects. The study of the senses and purposes of a fable when using both text concepts and their frame representations is proposed. In terms of a cognitive perspective the text concepts are the most suitable to reflect fable intentions taking into account the relative scheme-like plot of a fable and its characters. The frame of a text concept clearly reflects the attributes of the concept, its meanings and the source of knowledge about the meanings. The conceptual mechanism of fable image-symbol formation is cognitively considered. The speech strategies of English prose fable discourse, which are based on a satirical code and allegory, are investigated. The composition and stylistic construction of a fable, its composition types, basic compositional and speech forms as well as typical stylistic features are considered. It is emphasized that the orientation of all stylistic phenomena in an English prose fable is of pragmatic nature. The mechanism of fable sense self-organization, consisting in polarization of the text and subtext, is investigated. The polarization is expressed in the opposition of the senses that have been created due to the actual division of text and an over-phrase unity. Satirical and allegory codes and speech strategies of fable discourse are based on this synergetic effect. Key words: English prose fable, discourse, text concept, image-symbol, satirical code, allegory, compositional-stylistic structure, stylistic feature, self-organization, actual division, over-phrase unity.
