Essay

This dissertation focuses on revealing the influence of substitution of the phraseological components on the modification of emotivity of phraseological units. The research was carried out in several diachronic periods (the end of the 18th century - the beginning of the 19th century, the middle - the end of the 19th century, the end of the 20th - the beginning of the 21th century). It has been proved that the changes in emotivity of praseological units take place as a result of semantic and structural components substitution. The types of emotivity components modification - emotive evaluation, emotive tone, intensity, duration - are analyzed in the dissertation separately and in combination with other components of phraseological meaning. The regularities of emotivity modification have been revealed. The author suggests the authentic classification of emotivity component of phraseological meaning modifications. Emotivity modifications are divided into single (changes are connected only with emotivity) and composite (changes involve other aspects of phraseological meaning) ones. Double (changes in emotivity are combined with transformations in logical, functional-stylistic, motivation-figurative, grammatical and other components of phraseological meaning) and complex (more than two components of phraseological meaning are changed) modifications can be singled out among composite modifications. Key-words: modification of emotivity; substitution; level of substitution; single, composite, double, complex modification; diachronic aspect; phraseological meaning; primary, secondary phrase-forming process.
