Essay

To investigate the fluid phospholipid system P-V-T setup, adapted for the experiments at the small-angle spectrometer JUMO the IBR-2M of the JINR was designed and built. This setup allowed us to do experiments by small-angle neutron scattering and P-V-T method simultaneously. The experimental results were used to calculate changes in area per one lipid molecule during the phase transition from the ripple phase to a liquid-crystalline phase. Basis on the experiments, as well as on vacancy theory of oligomeric crystals melting, a model of melting phospholipids was proposed.
