The current thesis analyzes L. A. Bulahovsky's contribution to the foundation and development of the methodology of teaching the Russian language in Ukraine. The thesis studies the life and scientific and pedagogic activity of the scientist, defines and analyzes the theoretical and practical aspects of his linguistic and didactic views. The thesis thoroughly analyzes the methodological heritage of the scientist and describes his linguistic and didactic concepts of teaching the Russian language in Ukrainian schools. These concepts address the problems of determining the contents of a school course in the Russian language, teaching grammar and spelling rules to students, developing their speech skills as well as the issues of teaching both Russian and Ukrainian in school and theoretical foundations of constructing a language textbook considered by L. A. Bulahovsky.
