Essay

The thesis is devoted to the study of the language pictures of the world represented by folklore and modern American versified discourse for children. The versified discourse for children is considered to be a meaningful and functional continuum objectified by specific language forms, determined by the sociocultural environment of Great Britain and the United States of America. This discourse is characterized by a specially oriented picture of the world whose structural elements can serve as the basis for defining the semantic peculiarities of the versified discourse for children which develops in time and space. Both pictures of the world in the versified discourse for children are structured by the concepts of everyday life such as SOCIAL STRATA, HOUSEHOLD, ENTERTAINMENT, MUSIC, HOLIDAY, and basic emotional concepts of JOY, SORROW, FEAR, and ANGER. In both pictures of the world, the concept SOCIAL STRATA is represented by the terminals High Stratum, and Low Stratum. The concept HOUSEHOLD contains the terminal Food with mutual slots Snacks and Meals, Drinks, and Desserts, and the terminals Household Items and Household Work. The concept ENTERTAINMENT includes the terminals Games and Tricks. The concept MUSIC has the terminals Talent for Music, Sounds, and Musical Instruments with the slots of the same name, and the concept HOLIDAY has the terminals Holiday Nominations and Holiday Attributes.
