The features and regularities of evolution of basic institutes of Ukrainian marriage and family law in the X - XIX centuries are studied in the dissertation. The substantial emphasis is placed on such institutes of matrimonial law like marriage conclusion and breaking and also personal non-property legal relationships between husband and wife, parents and children. The legal adjusting of family relationships is analyzed on the basis of customary, canon and secular law comparison. Family legal relationships in Ukraine in the X - XIX centuries are concluded to have developed under the influence of Christianity. The church canons were the major factor to have effected on formation and evolution of secular law in this field. At the same time customary law remained the major one for definition of actual behavior of subject of family legal relationships which is proved by archival documents.
