Essay

Theoretical and empirical analysis of psychological factors of suicidal tendencies in surgical health care workers is performed. Suicidal tendencies are understood as active internalized phenomena which include suicidal ideation, plans and intentions and are characterized by specific forms, means of realization, development stages, predictors and risk factors. Existing differences between studied groups (male medical doctors, female medical doctors, nurses, auxiliary medical stuff) with regards of studied psychological factors are presented. On the basis of linear and logistics regression model sinter relations between studied psychological factors are outlined and their influence on the level of vulnerability and resilience to suicidal tendencies is evaluated. It is found that subjective well-being is a protective factor, while feelings of hopelessness, life stress and burn-out syndrome are risk factors. All of them have distinct links to personality traits within Big Five model. It is found that certain personality traits may be predictors of suicidal tendencies. It is defined that signs of burn-out are interrelated with suicidality. On the basis of proposed hierarchical models relative risk factors are evaluated: burn-out appeared to be the strongest predictor of suicidal tendencies. The results of the empirical study are used as a background for developing the program of psychological correction which is based on training self-control skills in medical stuff. The aim of the training are correction of emotional states and suicidal ideation, self regulation, achievement of positive behaviors and moods.
