Novikovа T. Church Slavonic Lexis in the Modern Ukrainian Language

The paper highlights different aspects of Church Slavonic lexis in terms of its history and development, and its place and role in the Ukrainian language. The peculiarities of its use in various social spheres, in Church life in particular, are outlined. The specific classification of Modern Ukrainian Church Slavonic lexis is suggested, subdividing it into semantic, lexical, phraseological, phonetic, morphemic, lexical, morphological and syntactic units. 27 lexical-semantic groups of Church Slavonic lexis are singled out, their phonetic-word-forming features are described, and their stylistic characteristics are analyzed based on the dictionaries of Modern Ukrainian.
