Essay

Based on the analysis of scientific literature, archive documents and re¬gulatory legal acts, the thesis studies the processes of change of the state-legal status of the Southern Bessarabia (Ukrainian Danube region) and its subsequent sovietization. The review of scientific literature, documentary and archive sources on the subject of the thesis was carried out. The legal grounds for restoration of the region's state-legal status in the view of current international law were provided. The processes of establishment of Ukraine-Moldova inter-republic border in its Southern direction (August 1940) and further change of the border in November of the same year were studied. The place and the role of the higher local Soviet authorities and Communist Party structures, acting in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic, Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic and Akkerman (Izmail) region within the period of research were examined; the competence, principles of interaction were shown. The activity of Soviet human rights authorities and punitive repressive structures was shown.
