Essay

This thesis focuses on revealing ethno-cultural specifics of Australian poetic texts via comprehensive analysis of linguistic, cultural and cognitive properties of dominant realia of Australian culture. It has been stated that ethnic realia Bush and Boomerang are embodied in poetic texts by means of primary and secondary nomination. The inventory of nominative units which actualize ethnic realia is exposed due to reconstruction of the content structure of the concepts BOOMERANG and BUSH. The methodology of concept reconstruction is aimed at revealing the structures of knowledge about the ethnic realia entrenched in the conscience of the Australian language community and verbalized in the semantic space of poetic texts. The range and scope of conceptual metaphors reconstructed via cognitive analysis of ethnocultural verbal poetic images made it possible to outline the field of ethnocultural senses they convey and testify the changes in contemporary conceptualization of the entities of BOOMERANG and BUSH. It has been proved that archetypal poetic images embody knowledge of ehnic realia shared by native Australians while novel images contain additional and new information pertained to modern Australian community. Key words: ethno-cultural specifics, ethnic realia, ethnocultural concept, ethnoarchetype, ethnocultural verbal poetic images, the means of primary and secondary nomination.
