Essay

The thesis deals with the metabolic syndrome, the relationships of levels of specific adipose tissue hormones: adiponectin and resistin with the structural and functional characteristics of the heart. The study involved 150 patients with metabolic syndrome, 53 patients with hypertension without coronary artery disease (CAD), 50 patients with coronary artery disease without history of myocardial infarction, 47 patients with coronary artery disease with postinfarction cardiosclerosis. The comparison group included 22 people without cardiovascular diseases. The correlations between changes in levels of adiponectin and resistin with indicators of the size of the left ventricle and the left ventricular ejection fraction were revealed. The interrelations between the levels of adiponectin, resistin and the nature of cardiac remodeling, the clinical course of cardiovascular disease in patients with metabolic syndrome were determined. The necessity of determining the concentrations of adiponectin to predict the risk of CAD in patients with arterial hypertension and metabolic syndrome was defined.
