Shyjka S. Terminology of Geographical Names of the Rovno Region.

The thesis deals with the terminology of geographic names of the Rovno region based on carefully collected local names of geographical objects and the study of the literature. 2293 regional geographical names collected in 491 populated localities of the region have been semantically classified into four thematic classes, the features of the meanings of the local vocabulary have been disclosed and parallels with its literary, dialectic and Slavic equivalents have been traced. The etymology of the analyzed nomens has been established. It has been proven that geographical terminology of the Rovno region as part of onomastic science is of systematic, logical, philosophical, and historical objective character, is embedded in the structure of the Ukrainian language, and is consonant (comparable) with similar common Slavic, national, and regional terminology systems, showing common and specific (belonging to the subject region only) features in each case.
