Essay

The object of the research - are the plays and novels by Frank Chin. The aim is to analyze the west-eastern component in the writer's creative works in the vista of the transcultural present. The methods used embrace historical and literary analysis, cultural and historical analysis, comparative study, cultural study. Frank Chin's imagery is approached in the conceptual field of transculture. Intertextuality in the plays and novels is analyzed on different levels: beginning with the transtextuality of titles to the deep connections to the precedent texts of both oriental and occidental origin. The Chinese component of the intertextuality catalyzes the development of open-end meanings variously referred to the planetary culture. Escape from the ghetto of Chinese-American discourse is by no means thematised within genetic, leaving behind ethnic culture-space, it is portrayed as an appeal to the world culture. The study of Frank Chin's works including their poetic peculiarities (such as intertextuality, intermediality, paratextuality), as well as semantic ones (Chinese-American identity deconstruction, conjugating oriental poetic and semantic patterns with the currents of various cultures, diffusion of national identity with the universal every-man culture-space) elucidates the formation of the new genre of "transcultural novel", deeply rooted into the multifarious cultural synthesis. The related sphere is educational process.
