This research was focused on the clinical and laboratory features of preterm newborns with high perinatal risk and postnatal changes in their thermal control reactions, as well as phagocytic and cellular components of immune system. In particular, the changes in central and peripheral body temperature, formation of temperature gradient and its clinical value, shifts in numbers of lymphocytes and granulocytes during neonatal period were investigated; peculiarities of cellular components of immune system were specified. The new data on the relationship between the magnitude of temperature gradient and severity of hypoxic-ischemic central nervous system injury during the first months of life of preterm infants were received. In addition, the correlation between temperature gradient, age, body weight and neutrophilic-lymphocytic index were determined.
