The thesis focuses on the complex research of the onomatopoetic system of the contemporary Japanese language. The paper deals with the peculiarities of typology and classification of the onomatopoetic lexis of the Japanese language. The thesis studies in detail the semasiological aspect of the problem, investigates the particularities of the Japanese vocal and consonant symbolism. The attempt is made to determine the phonostylistic functions of the onomatopoetemes in the Japanese literature and to analyze linguistic units in the texts of different genres. Linguadidactic and lexicographical questions such as the principles of selection and inclusion of the onomatopoetic lexis to the contemporary textbooks, manuals, dictionaries of the Japanese language etc. are examined within the framework of modern linguapragmatics.
