Essay

thesis is aimed at highlighting the peculiarities of genre and typology of characters in social Turkish novella of the first part of the 20th century. The main types of female characters (mother, beggar, prostitute) and social and psychological types of a "small" person have been analyzed in social Turkish novella. The types of a satirical character have been described on the example of Seyfettin's and Ertem's novella. Based on the narrative analysis of literary works of H. Z. Usakl?gil, O. Seyfettin, R. H. Karay, S. Ertem, O. Kemal the evolution of character's world-view has been highlighted. The way from socially unconscious personality to a socially active one has been shown. The origins and forms of expressing genre in social novella in Turkish literature have been traced and prevailing types of genre, such as novella-"fate", psychological and didactic novella, novella-etude and novella-report have been characterized. For the first time a detailed classification of prevailing social motifs has been suggested and their analysis has been made. The prerequisites and peculiarities of the development of social realism in artistic Turkish environment have been traced as well as the relation of the genre of novella to the aesthetics of literary form. An attempt to find out typical discrepancies of determinant types of realism (social, socialistic and critical) in Turkish literature has been made.
