Essay

The thesis is dedicated to the examination of the legal framework of the foreign policy of Ukraine in 1917 -1921 on the basis of the analysis of various sources and summary of legal and historical literature. The thesis describes the process of formation of the legal framework for the foreign policy activities of Ukraine, determines organizational and legal principles of the foreign policy activities of Ukrainian governments, analyzes legal support to Ukrainian embassies and extraordinary diplomatic missions, and reveals the legal regulation of the formation of the consular service of Ukraine and its activities. A special attention is paid to the activities of Ukrainian diplomacy aimed at validation of the legal capacity of Ukraine, to the role of Ukrainian National Republic and Ukrainian State as subjects in bilateral diplomatic relations, and legal consequences of Ukraine's participation in multilateral diplomatic relations. According to the results of the study there have been defined statements and conclusions that help to reassess the legal support of the foreign policy of Ukraine in 1917 - 1921, critically reconsider gained experience and avoid many mistakes and miscalculations that were made at that stage of the state building.
