Essay

Teichoic acids of lactic acid bacteria probiotic strains L. plantarum 11/16 UCM B-2694 and L. plantarum 195D have been isolated. Chemical composition and the glycerolteichoic type have been established. It has been shown, that the teichoic acids affect the adhesive process of lactobacilli and opportunistic pathogens to human buccal epithelium. The concentration of inorganic phosphate as the main component in the teichoic acids synthesis influenced the microbial surface hydrophobicity of lactobacilli, their autolytic properties and sensitivity of bacteria to antibiotics. The stimulating effect of teichoic acid of L. plantarum 11/16 UCM B-2694 and L. plantarum 195D on phagocytosis and proliferation of macrophages has been demonstrated. Safety study of the investigated strains and teichoic acid, isolated from their cell walls showed no pathogenicity.
