The work presents theoretically grounded and experimentally tested methods of forming foreign students' independent work skills and abilities in the process of professionally-oriented home-reading of texts on speciality on medical and biological themes within the framework of highlighted metacognitive and cognitive strategies on the base of systematically organized teaching mediums (algorithms, exercises and tasks) with the compulsory self-check and control of the performed actions. The system of teaching foreign students language at preparatory departments was described and generalized.
