The object of the research is the novel "Coronation, or the Last of Romanoff" by Boris Akunin; The purpose of the research is an integral analysis of the novel "Coronation, or the Last of Romanoff" by Boris Akunin within the context of the writer's creative activity and general tendencies of modern literary process; The methods of the research are: comparative historical, comparative typological, contextual, structural, the method of intertextual analysis. The novelty of the research is determined by the following facts: for the first time the novel "Coronation" by Boris Akunin has been characterized within the context of modern retro detective literature; typological similarities and dissimilarities of the images of Erast Fandorin and Ivan Dmitrievich Putilin, the hero of a cycle of novels by L. Yuzefovitch, have been considered; for the first time the plot and the composition peculiarities of "Coronation" have been analyzed; the ideological and aesthetic functions of the Bible symbols in the novel have been revealed; the novel intertextual links have been established; traditions of Russian philosophical and psychological prose of the XIX century have been examined. The results of the research may be used in preparing courses on the history of modern Russian literature, special literature courses, in further researches dealing with Boris Akunin's creative activities. The area of research is philology.
