Essay

The thesis deals with the structural and functional features of social capital in the post-Soviet Ukrainian society. The author clarifies the conceptual interpretation of social capital which enables its empirical measurement. A four-component structure of social capital including social network, trust, norms and values, and social resources has been offered. The author underlines that among the three interpretation levels of social capital (micro-, meso-and macro-level) the concept of a social capital at the micro-level is most applicable to the study of post-Soviet societies. In the empirical study it was focused on the two main forms of social capital: a formal and informal social capital, 'boding' and 'bridging' forms of capital. The author analyzes a link between social capital and social status of an individual, its co-variation. On the basis of empirical research conducted by the author, it was calculated the impact of the micro-level social capital on secure and/ or advance of an individual social status by public servants in the public authority system in the Ukrainian society.
