Essay

The dissertation work is aimed at the research of stress-induced alterations of composition of whole saliva of young people depending on reactivity type and gender. It is substantiated that increases of cortisol concentration and alfa-amylase activity in whole saliva are the most reliable biomarkers of stress reaction. Changes of cortisol concentration in whole saliva reflect increased anxiety levels with great accuracy and characterize types of stress resistance. State anxiety levels at stress and at rest are the best predictors of the stress-induced increase of cortisol concentration in whole saliva. Psychoemotional stress in young people is accompanied by activation of the antioxidant protection system that is more expressed in females. Psychoemotional stress intensifies catabolism of macromolecules in whole saliva of people For the purpose of a better understanding of the mechanisms of stress-induced impairment of the salivary glands we experimentally investigated structural and biochemical characteristics of tissues of the submandibular salivary gland of rats at acute stress depending on the type of stress resistance of the animals. Pathomorphological lesions in the structure of tissues of the salivary gland in stressed rats entail inhibition of synthesis of acidic glycosaminoglycans, glycoproteins and mucous substances that is more pronounced in non-stress-resistant rats compared to the stress-resistant type.
