Kulchytska E. Environmental and Economic Foundations of Tourism and Recreation Development on the Forest Areas

Research object is the recreation and tourism activity of forestry enterprises of Lviv Regional Board of Forestry and Hunting. It involves the use, protection and restoration of recreational resources in the forest. The purpose of research is substantiation of theoretical and methodical approaches and practical recommendations concerning environmental and economic principles of tourism and recreation development on the forest areas. Research methods were: methods of sociological research, statistical methods, correlation and regression analysis, induction, deduction, systematic approach. Scientific novelty. Ecological-economic classification of recreational carrying capacity, the system of indicators for assessment of recreation and tourism activity sustainable development were proposed for the first time. The following aspects were improved in the Thesis: methodological approaches to strategy development for sustainable recreation and tourism activity of forestry enterprises; methodological approaches to determine the effectiveness of measures ensuring sustainable development of recreation and tourism activities. The following aspects were further developed: classification of demand and supply factors for recreation and tourism product; the system of measures ensuring sustainable development of recreation and tourism activities on forest areas. Theoretical and practical results: theoretical concepts and practical recommendations can be used for the recreation and tourism development on the forest areas considering environmental, social and economic goals. Level of implementation: the research results are used by the Lviv Regional Board of Forestry and Hunting and by the national park "Skolivski Beskydy" to develop sustainable recreation and tourism activity in order to increase efficiency of recreation forest use. Some results of the research are used in educational process within the courses "Environmental Economics" and "Tourism on the protected areas" at the Ivan Franko National University of L'viv.
