Dissertation studies axiological paradigms of T. Shevchenko's stories in Ukrainian literary context. It considers the author's axiological priorities which underlie problematical level of stories, literary values of stories in the context of Ukrainian literature and principles of scientific and critical reception of Shevchenko's works.Different forms of identity are researched in the dissertation. Narration or narration with travelling is one of means to understand identity for a person. Travelling can be interpreted in a metaphorical sense - as a returning to our childhood and young years. This explains the combination of itinerary and autobiographical motifs in T. Shevchenko's stories.
