The thesis focuses on the problem of developing receptive grammatical competence in English teacher trainees. A number of methodological, didactic and psychological premises of English receptive grammatical competence were analyzed. The content and structure of receptive grammatical competence, as well as the means and techniques of its development were specified and studied. The components and key characteristics of multimedia learning environment were defined. A set of demands on multimedia learning tools and criteria for their evaluation was suggested. Using outcomes of conducted study a series of multimedia exercises for developing receptive grammatical competence was developed. The model of developing receptive grammatical competence in English teacher trainees was worked out. The experimental learning confirmed the efficiency of the method developed. Based on the results of the research methodological recommendations for developing receptive grammatical competence by means of a self-paced extra-curricular learning using multimedia tools were elaborated.
